Gerhard Richter (b. 1932) is among the most internationally acclaimed figures in the contemporary art world. While his work varies widely in style, he has consistently focused on the processes of seeing, and has developed a unique practice that manifests Schein (German for “light” or “phantom image”).
This exhibit features two works from the museum’s collection: a photo painting (painting based on a photo) from the mid-1960s, and an abstract painting from the late 1980s.
