Pola Museum of Art Nature Trail

The “Pola Museum of Art Nature Trail” celebrated its Grand Opening in July 2013. This outdoor path, measuring a length of 670 meters, offers a respite among the lush landscape of beech and himesyara stewartia trees growing naturally in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Walkers can enjoy the different sounds of wild birds that visit throughout the year, and admire small animals that show up from time to time. The 670 meter trail takes approximately 30 – 40 minutes to walk.

Exploring the Pola Museum of Art Nature Trail

The “Pola Museum of Art Nature Trail” celebrated its Grand Opening in July 2013. This outdoor path, measuring a length of 670 meters, offers a respite among the lush landscape of beech and himesyara stewartia trees growing naturally in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Walkers can enjoy the different sounds of wild birds that visit throughout the year, and admire small animals that show up from time to time. Level 8 naturalness ranking

The Naturalness Index measures the degree to which an area retains its of natural native condition. The forest surrounding the Pola Museum of Art is ranked level 8, out of a maximum of 10 (most natural native wilderness). Level 8 is indicative of an important natural forest. (The 10 stage Naturalness Index measures of the impact of human interference in the natural environment, with urban areas being ranked level 1 and virgin grasslands and forests ranked at 9 or 10.)

Activities to Nurture the Hakone Forests

The growth of Sasa-bamboo has become a problematic to the protection of plant species native to Hakone. The Pola Museum periodically removes Sasa-bamboo, and other plants not native to the region, to create an environment where native species can propagate and thrive.

Restrictions

  1. Entry to areas outside the trail is prohibited
  2. Collection of plants and insects is not allowed
  3. Smoking, littering are not allowed

Warning

Stay clear of bees and poisonous snakes and plants. Contact staff immediately if stung by a bee, or any other emergency.
If you encounter a hornets’ nest, remain still. Attempting to shoo the hornets away can be dangerous. Slowly move away from the spot.
