The collection of Pola Museum of Art, Pola Art Foundation is one that was put together over a period of more than forty years by the late Suzuki Tsuneshi (1930-2000), the former owner of the Pola Orbis Holdings Inc.. These works include example of modern European painting, modern Japanese Western-style painting, contemporary Japanese-style painting, prints, sculpture, Oriental ceramics, modern and contemporary Japanese ceramics, glasswork, and cosmetic utensils from a variety of eras and regions of world.

Western Painting
Forming the core of the collection are modern European paintings, chiefly works by Impressionists such as Monet and Sisley, and twentieth-century painters such as Picasso and Vlaminck.

Japanese Western-style Painting
The Pola Museum of Art has paintings that provide an overview of the major painters and important movements in the history of Japanese Western-style painting, from early Meiji era to the Taisho and Showa eras. These Works represent not only the history of Japanese Western-style painting but also the course of Japanfs modernization.

In this gallery, we follow how Japanese painters created a Japanese style of oil painting by assimilating Western painting in original ways.

Japanese-style Painting
Modern and contemporary Japanese-style paintings represent one of the highlights of the Pola Museum of Art. The collection has been built around works of artists who profoundly influenced Japanese-style painting of the Showa era, such as Sugiyama Yasushi, Takayama Tatsuo, Hirayama Ikuo, and others.
