Japanese Western-style Painting
The Pola Museum of Art has paintings that provide an overview of the major painters and important movements in the history of Japanese Western-style painting, from early Meiji era to the Taisho and Showa eras. These Works represent not only the history of Japanese Western-style painting but also the course of Japan’s modernization.

In this gallery, we follow how Japanese painters created a Japanese style of oil painting by assimilating Western painting in original ways.
